Weekend in Motorsport (6/7 August 2011)

Now then.

We'll begin this week with looking back at last week's action. An eventful Spa 24 Hours saw the pace setting McLaren suffering a Very Heavy Crash in the opening hour, leaving Audi to take victory from BMW.

The chaps from Ingolstadt kindly documented their weekend for those of us not lucky enough to have made it across the channel.

THE RACE - PART 2

This weekend's Stateside action brings us Indycar and ALMS from Mid-Ohio and NASCAR at Pocono, PA.

Here in the UK it's the return of the BTCC from their summer break. This week's race will be at the revamped Snetterton circuit in Norfolk. The MSC team attended the Lotus Festival at Snet earlier this year and can confirm that the new layout is very spectator friendly with a number of very large viewing mounds (including one that is probably the highest point in the whole county) giving an excellent view of the track.

The Honda Racing team have created a video of their BTCC exploits that will be release later this month to coincide with the Knockhill round, the home circuit of driver Gordon Sheddon. TRAILER

Whilst we're in a BTCC mood, I came across the following video from 1986 featuring Southampton Football Club's leading celebrity fan and former Radio One disc jockey and helicopter crasher Mike Smith.

...and Finally:

The excellent "SENNA" movie is now available to PRE-ORDER. If you haven't yet seen the film then you really should. The mixture of archive footage and the contrasting styles of Murray Walker's gentle english commentary versus the frenetic Portuguese of the Brazilian commentator make the story come alive for even the most cynical of motorsport fan.
